TAXEM CIVIC TECH
NOT YET CERTIFIED TAXEM is a development-stage civic tax engine. It is not yet certified for direct electronic transmission (NETFILE) by the CRA or Revenu Québec. Active Ontario-first scope under review. Do not rely on TAXEM for official filing. Read Certification Roadmap →
CIVIC TECHNOLOGY

The Canadian tax software that explains the return instead of hiding it.

TAXEM is a calm, local-first Canadian income tax preparation environment. We reject aggressive upselling and dark patterns in favor of transparency, mathematical rigor, and dual-jurisdiction control (Quebec + Federal) from day one.

TAXEM Demo is a private, early technology preview. Electronic filing is not available yet. CRA NETFILE and Revenu Québec certification are planned for a future release, not active now.

A Paradigm Shift in Tax Software

Tax preparation doesn't have to feel like a casino. Here is how TAXEM does things differently.

Traditional Software

  • Stressed & Gamified: Uses flashing refund loops and anxiety-inducing alerts to keep you hooked.
  • Aggressive Upselling: Constant prompts to buy support, audit defense, or upgrade to "Deluxe."
  • Cloud Lock-In: Forces your sensitive financial data onto remote servers under corporate control.
  • Black-Box Calculations: Outputs numbers without explaining where they came from or how they were calculated.

The TAXEM Way

  • Calm & Plain: A serene, clean workspace that values focus, review, and accuracy over speed.
  • Zero Gimmicks: Simple, transparent model. No upgrades, no upselling, and no manipulative UX.
  • Local-First Control: Your data remains completely under your control, stored locally on your machine.
  • Explainable Ledger: Every single calculation is fully auditable, explained line-by-line in plain language.

CERTIFICATION PATHWAY

Canada NETFILE Readiness Roadmap

Formal accreditation with tax authorities is an annual process. We are actively structuring the TAXEM engine to ensure compliance with the technical standards required by the Canada Revenue Agency and Revenu Québec.

We have successfully completed local verification suites and are preparing to enter official certification channels for the upcoming tax cycle.

1

Verification & Local Seams

Completed 1645-test suite validation. Gated Ontario-first filing eligibility checker and SIN masking rules.

2

Developer Registration (Fall)

Submit formal registration to the CRA Electronic Media Processing Unit (EMPU) and Revenu Québec Partner Services.

3

Validation & Testing (Winter)

Execute and submit required test-case returns and scanner-ready print layouts (IN-413-V TPF-1.U) to validation portals.

4

Gateway Opening & Launch (Feb)

Enable direct-transmission (NETFILE) features upon receiving official confirmation letters and TCIs.

ROADMAP

Expanding to the United States

Our core mission of reducing financial anxiety is a cross-border challenge. For next season, we are actively preparing modular extensions to support United States tax filings.

To ensure the same high level of engineering discipline and simplicity, we will start with states that have **Federal-Only** income tax returns (meaning no additional state income tax filings).

1

Canada (Quebec & Federal)

Dual-jurisdiction calculation engine fully operational and verified for 2024 and 2025.

2

United States (Federal & Florida)

Introducing the IRS 1040 layout and Florida state-free validation for the upcoming tax cycle.

3

Additional Federal-Only States

Expanding support to Texas, Washington, Nevada, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Alaska.

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about our local-first architecture and civic principles.

Is TAXEM online or offline?

It is designed to run entirely locally. The website you are viewing now is a promo showcase, but the actual TAXEM engine compiles and runs on your machine. Your financial information never uploads to our servers.

Why do you emphasize Quebec?

Quebec has a separate, highly distinct provincial tax filing system. Most software treats it as an afterthought. We built our architecture to natively support dual-jurisdiction coupling from the ground up.

Is TAXEM certified by the CRA and Revenu Québec?

No, TAXEM is currently a development-stage prototype and is not yet certified for direct electronic transmission (NETFILE) by the CRA or Revenu Québec. We are actively organizing our calculations and structuring layouts to prepare for formal certification cycles through official channels in a future release.

What tax years and provinces are supported?

TAXEM currently supports calculations for the 2024 and 2025 tax years. Our active certification direction is Ontario-first, which supports Ontario residents filing individual returns (T1 with Form ON428 and ON479). The Quebec TP-1 calculation engine is present in our code for dual-jurisdiction future-proofing, but provincial Quebec filing is currently unsupported. For other provinces, calculations are present in the core but not yet fully wired to the user interface. Read our detailed Scope & Limitations page for more details.

Will it always be free from upsells?

Yes. The platform is built on civic tech principles. There will never be "paywalls for deductions" or unexpected upgrade fees. We charge a flat fee for the executable package, or you can build it from source.
